Each video is one complete book of the Douay-Rheims Bible, read aloud word for word by a cast of voices, over engravings in the manner of a nineteenth-century illustrated Bible. Latin and Spanish audio tracks, read from the Clementine Vulgate and from Felipe Scío de San Miguel’s translation, are recorded and will follow on YouTube; captions in all three languages come with them.
The books are published shortest first. Nothing is cut, modernised or paraphrased.
The booksSubscribe on YouTubeThe text is Challoner’s Douay-Rheims of 1749–1752, every verse, as printed. The Latin is the Clementine Vulgate of 1592; the Spanish is Scío’s translation of that Latin, with its spelling modernised and its words untouched.
One engraving per scene, in the manner of a nineteenth-century illustrated Bible: the places, the objects, the weather of the text. No figure of God, of Christ or of the Spirit is ever drawn.
Who is named, where and when the book is, which verse you are at, an atlas of the places, and notes that give facts only. A quoted gloss always carries its author’s name and date.
